Ashok Leyland EV Bus Plant Inaugurated in Sarojini Nagar; MLA Rajeshwar Singh Praises CM Yogi’s Vision

Lucknow | Sarojini Nagar emerged as a key milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial and green mobility roadmap on Friday with the inauguration of the state’s first electric bus manufacturing facility by Ashok Leyland. The advanced EV bus plant was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alongside Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The launch of the facility marks a significant step toward clean transportation, industrial growth and employment generation in the state. Addressing the occasion, Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, calling the project a turning point in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial history.

Dr Singh said the establishment of the electric bus factory in Sarojini Nagar reflects the Chief Minister’s far-sighted leadership, strong political will and consistent focus on investor-friendly governance. He noted that the project would not have been possible without the policy clarity and administrative efficiency introduced under the Yogi government.

Recalling the past perception of Uttar Pradesh as a state witnessing industrial decline, Dr Rajeshwar Singh said the scenario has changed dramatically in recent years. “Under CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a national hub for green mobility, high-tech manufacturing and the Make in India initiative,” he said, describing the Ashok Leyland EV plant as a living example of this transformation.

The MLA highlighted that the facility has been set up with an investment exceeding ₹1,000 crore. In its initial phase, the plant is expected to produce 2,500 electric buses annually, with future expansion planned to increase capacity to 5,000 buses per year. He said this growth trajectory demonstrates the state’s shift from being consumption-driven to becoming a centre of production and exports.

Dr Rajeshwar Singh also credited the Yogi government’s fast-track decision-making, transparent administration and strong investment protection mechanisms for attracting major industrial players. He pointed out that incentives such as front-end land subsidies have boosted investor confidence and encouraged long-term commitments in Uttar Pradesh.

Emphasising the strategic use of land, the MLA said the plant has been developed on the 70-acre site of the former Scooter India facility. He described this as a prime example of the government’s vision to convert idle public assets into dynamic industrial hubs. The project is expected to generate over 1,000 direct jobs and create thousands of indirect and self-employment opportunities for local youth.

Dr Singh said the EV bus plant would contribute to clean and sustainable transport, help achieve zero-carbon goals, and promote skill-based employment for future generations. He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh would play a leading role in India’s electric vehicle revolution under CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership.

Concluding his remarks, Dr Rajeshwar Singh said the Sarojini Nagar EV plant represents a rare convergence of development, environmental protection and self-reliance. “This factory is not just an achievement of the present, but a foundation for a stronger and greener Uttar Pradesh envisioned by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” he said.
